Karlstad - Carl Erick Westling Jr, 71, Karlstad,  passed away Monday, March 3, 2014, at Kittson Memorial Hospital in Hallock, surrounded by his family.
Carl was born November 30, 1942 in Minneapolis, to Carl and Selma (Erickson) Westling. He grew up and attended school in Minneapolis, and was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.  Carl served our country in Korea April 3, 1960, and was honorably discharged March 3, 1966.  He was united in marriage to Anita Wollin February 6, 1965, at Augustana Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. Carl worked various jobs throughout his lifetime including: Rollins Fuel Oil Company, Budget Power, Twin City Floral Company, and Roberts-Hamilton Plumbing Company while living in Minneapolis. He was also a self- employed plumber.
In 1976, Carl and his family moved to Karlstad,  and began working as the Boiler Engineer at the Karlstad Memorial Hospital and Healthcare Center. He was also a dedicated EMT with the Karlstad Rescue Squad for 15 years. With the hospital closing, Carl took a job at Motor Coach Industries and worked there until declining health forced him into early retirement.
Carl was a member of First Lutheran Church and a member of American Legion Post 445 in Karlstad.
Loving Family members of Carl include his wife Anita, sons Chadwick, Jonathan (Julie), Jamison and daughter Jennifer (Gregory) Olson; nine grandchildren: Jarod, Joshua, Breanna, Joel, Kaitlynn, Tayler, Aaron, Kylie and Lynsie; brothers Donald (Robin) Westling, Arnold (Connie) Cummins, sisters Linda Westling, Carol Nelson, Lorna (Jerry) Hermanek, Darleen Harrison, and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was proceeded in death by his parents Carl Sr. and Selma; sisters Rose Anderson and Vivian Ardis Mae Cummins, brothers, Arlo Cummins, Aldor and Roland Westling; and brothers-in-law Orville Harrison and Arnold Anderson.
