Funeral services were held Monday, June 9,  at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, Thief River Falls, with Rev. Greg Schram officiating. Interment was held at Woodman Cemetery at Middle River.
Judith Marie Engen was born May 31, 1944 at Thief River Falls, daughter of the late Eldor and Pearl (Waldron) Engen. She was raised near Viking and the Newfolden area attending school at the Newfolden School. Judy was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.
On Aug. 27, 1960, she was united in marriage to Luvern Sorter at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Newfolden. The couple made their home in Greenbush for the first year. The couple were members of Ringbo Lutheran Church, where Judy served as Deaconess, President and Secretary of the Ladies Aid, taught Sunday School and was Treasurer of the Luther League. To this union, five children were born, which kept them very busy with the farming, gardening and church activities. The couple moved to rural Thief River Falls in 1993. Judy and Luvern started camping, taking bus trips and enjoy the area music festivals and events. Holidays and annual family camping trips were important family traditions for Judy.
They were members of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls and Sons of Norway. They enjoyed bus trips to Branson, Mo., Two Harbors, The Black Hills, Host Fest, threshing shows and blue grass music festivals. Judy continued to enjoy her flower and vegetable gardens in the summer, stayed busy cooking and baking and remained active with the church.
